Analogue CCTV
In a traditional analog CCTV setup, security cameras record analogue footage and send the signal to a digital video recorder over a coaxial wire (DVR). The DVR compresses and digitizes the analog signal before storing it on a hard drive for later retrieval. The DVR has intelligence built in to manage tasks like scheduling, motion detection, and digital zoom. The DVR can be configured to publish content over an internal network for viewing on PCs, or it can be connected to monitors for viewing.
IP / Network Security Camera
Each network camera in the IP world records an analog image before instantly converting it to a digital image inside the camera. Motion detection and compression are two examples of digital processing that can take place directly at the camera. The local area network is then used to broadcast the digital video stream using Ethernet cable. Special adaptors integrated into the cameras and at the switch provide power to the cameras across the Ethernet cable. Each camera’s Ethernet cable is connected to the switch, which connects to the network hub.
